
Mr. Van Lonkhuyzen concentrates
his practice in the areas of criminal defense, domestic
relations and personal injury law. He regularly appears
in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate
levels.
Recently, Mr. Van Lonkhuyzen won a motion to suppress
in a cocaine trafficking case, resulting in the dismissal
of all charges against the client, and won a jury verdict
against a college on behalf of a student injured in
the classroom. He has also litigated a complex and serious
construction accident case which resulted in one of
the largest personal injury awards in Massachusetts
in 2006.
In other notable cases, Mr. Van Lonkhuyzen negotiated
a large settlement in a wrongful death claim against
the Big Dig, won a jury trial in state superior court
regarding the wrongful cutting of trees, and was co-counsel
in a federal telemarketing fraud case which resulted
in a not guilty verdict for the client. Mr. Van Lonkhuyzen
also has extensive experience representing convicted
sex offenders before the Sex Offender Registry Board,
earning reduced registration requirements for many clients.
In divorce cases, Mr. Van Lonkhuyzen has successfully
negotiated advantageous settlements for many clients
and has been co-counsel in several trials resulting
in a favorable judgement for the client. Mr Van Lonkhuyzen
has also represented military personnel faced with a
court-martial and successfully obtained reduced or dismissed
charges.
On the appellate side, Mr. Van Lonkhuyzen successfully
challenged the constitutionality of the Massachusetts
Controlled Substances Tax and defended that decision
on appeal to the Supreme Judicial Court, and successfully
defended a federal district court jury verdict which
was appealed to the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
